Most of the written space, on the left, is filled by a compact block of handwritten Latin text in dark Gothic script, brown verging on black, set in regular lines. A few words and one short line stand out in red ink, while several initials at the start of verses are painted in blue, pink, and red, with small spirals and geometric motifs; the largest initial, at the bottom, combines blue, red, and gold over a dark, ornamented ground. Tucked against the text on the right is a tall rectangular border, as high as the written block. Over a white ground sprinkled with tiny black dots and sprigs, deep-blue stems intertwine with acanthus leaves in golden ochre and blue. At the top are round green fruits with dark-red centers and elongated leaves; at the bottom, clusters of deep-blue grapes among pale-green leaves. Another similar border peeks in, cropped, at the left margin. The wide empty margins, the matte, slightly uneven surface of the parchment, and the crisp ink convey the intimate scale of a book meant to be held in the hands.","contexto":"According to the Cleveland Museum of Art, this is folio 109 recto of a Book of Hours for the Use of Rouen, made around 1470 in Rouen, France, in ink, tempera, and gold on vellum. It is attributed to the Master of the Geneva Latini, an illuminator active in Rouen from 1460 to 1480, named after a manuscript now in Geneva and regarded as the city's leading illuminator in the second half of the fifteenth century. In the late 1400s and early 1500s, Rouen was an important center of book production, linked in part to its cathedral and to nearby booksellers. Who commissioned or first owned this copy is not known.","como_mirarla":"Start with the initials marking each verse, then follow the red line that interrupts the dark text. Next, look at the right-hand border from top to bottom: the round fruits give way to vines and, finally, to grapes. Note how the decoration does not illustrate a scene, but grows alongside the prayer.","dato_curioso":"A close look reveals two plant worlds in one border: stylized acanthus scrolls at the center and surprisingly recognizable clusters of blue grapes with light-green leaves at the bottom.","preguntas":["How does the border change the experience of reading a text in Latin, whether or not one understands it?","What might the vines, leaves, and grapes suggest about nature, growth, or abundance in a book of prayer?","What is lost, and what is gained, when a page made to be held is seen only as a digital image?"]},"es":{"titulo":"Libro de Horas (uso de Ruan): fol.
