Each page holds two tight columns of small, uniform lettering with generous outer margins and a clear gutter at the center. Illuminated initials punctuate the text blocks: capitals in vivid blue and vermilion red, some extended with delicate pen flourishes in matching red and blue that curl into slender vines between columns and toward the lower margin. Rubrication appears in red for headings and emphasis, contrasting with the dark brown-black main script and its abbreviations. The parchment itself is matte and slightly undulating, with soft creases, subtle staining and faint speckling along the fore-edges, while the thick leather binding is visible at the spine and edges with a worn, browned tone. Even, diffused light reveals the slight relief of ink, the tactile thinness of vellum and tiny losses at the corners. The folio number 131 is inscribed at the top right. In the foreground the central fold casts a soft shadow, giving a strong sense of scale and three-dimensional volume to a volume roughly thirty centimeters tall.","contexto":"This is folio 131r of the so-called Gotha Missal, a deluxe liturgical manuscript made around 1375 in Paris using ink, tempera and gold on vellum with a blind-tooled leather binding. Its decoration is typical of Parisian luxury books made for aristocratic or royal patrons and is attributed to the Master of the Boqueteaux and workshop, active at the court of King Charles V, who died in 1380. No royal portrait or colophon survives, so a direct royal commission cannot be proven, but its magnificent workmanship suggests it was probably made for a Valois prince, possibly the king himself. Its modern name comes from the German dukes of Gotha, later owners. It is now in the Cleveland Museum of Art.","como_mirarla":"First take in the strict grid of the double columns, then hunt for the blue and red initials. Follow the thin flourished vines trailing from each initial and notice how they pace your reading, and how the worn vellum at the edges hints at centuries of liturgical handling.","dato_curioso":"The folio still shows its early numbering at the top right and the medieval system of rubrication, where red ink marks liturgical divisions to help the celebrant navigate the dense Gothic text.","preguntas":["How does seeing the text as a visual architecture change your sense of reading?","What does the tension between the rigid grid and the free scrolling flourishes suggest about order and ornament?","What does the aged, handled parchment convey about value and use compared with a modern printed page?"]},"es":{"titulo":"El Misal de Gotha: folio 131r, doble página de texto","se_ve":"Libro abierto en doble página visto desde arriba, sobre fondo oscuro, con las dos hojas de pergamino cubiertas por apretada escritura gótica en tinta negra.
