Its entire surface is filled with a dense, luminous relief in shifting golden tones, from pale polished yellow to deep ochre in the crevices. In the lower right, the Virgin sits with the nude Christ Child on her knee before a gabled stable with marked timber beams; bearded Joseph stands at the edge watching, beside a small nude child nearby. At center and left, the Three Magi advance in heavily draped robes holding vessels: one kneels in the foreground with arms crossed and a thick beard, two stand behind him. In the lower left corner, a nearly nude helmeted male bends to adjust a sandal. Behind them, a long procession of tiny figures winds diagonally up rugged, craggy hills that dominate the upper half. At the very top, an eight-pointed star with a long vertical ray radiates above the landscape. Light catches raised edges and pools into deep shadows in the metal valleys, emphasizing granular texture, wear and the sense of miniature scale held in the hand.","contexto":"According to Cleveland Museum of Art records, this is a pax — a small flat tablet with Christian imagery kissed by the priest before Communion — made in gilt bronze around 1500 in Italy and attributed to Moderno (1467–1528). It shows the Adoration of the Magi with the Holy Family, Joseph and probably the young John the Baptist as a child. It likely once had a tabernacle-shaped frame now cut away. An inscription on the back records its gift in 1583 from goldsmith Ioannes Baptista Fontanus to Andrea Aiardo, Archbishop of Brindisi. Other casts of this plaquette are in the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Louvre, Berlin State Museums and Metropolitan Museum of Art.","como_mirarla":"Start at the bottom with the intimate group of Mary and Child, then follow the Magi toward them. Trace the diagonal procession up the rocky hills to the star at the top; notice how the crowded background contrasts with the quiet foreground.","dato_curioso":"Though only a few inches tall, this plaquette shares its model with casts in at least five major museums, showing how bronze plaquettes circulated widely in the Renaissance.","preguntas":["How does knowing this object was kissed during Mass change how you see it?","What do small details — like the helmeted man adjusting a sandal — add to the sacred scene?","What effect does the busy crowd on the hills create against the calm Holy Family in front?"]},"es":{"titulo":"Pax con la Adoración de los Reyes Magos","se_ve":"Pequeña placa rectangular de bronce dorado vista de frente sobre fondo gris neutro.
