At the center is the text block, framed by a broad, muted border in gray-green and dusty blue, decorated with very pale foliage, flower heads in faded pink and white, and ghostly curving stems. On the left, a narrow vertical panel stands out sharply: on a matte gold-ochre ground, three flowers are painted with great precision, a soft yellow bloom at the top, a vivid blue five-petaled flower in the middle, and a white-and-orange bud below, each with slender green stems and leaves. Resting on the blue flower is a small butterfly with orange, gray, and blue wings and thin antennae. To the right of the panel, a few lines of dark Gothic script remain legible, ending in \"Amen\" with a small red and gold mark, while below them the rest of the writing appears pale gray, reversed and blurred. The light is even and soft, with no harsh shadows; textures alternate between the smooth skin of the vellum, the granular gold ground, and the delicate, almost trompe-l'oeil modelling of petals and wings. Everything is small in scale, quiet, and meant to be held close.","contexto":"This is folio 192v from the Hours of Isabella the Catholic, Queen of Spain, made around 1500 in Ghent and Bruges, Flanders, in ink, tempera, and gold on vellum. According to the Cleveland Museum of Art, it was illuminated by a circle of at least five organized painters; the principal artist was Alexander Bening, identified here as the Master of the First Prayer Book of Maximilian. A book of hours served the private devotion of a layperson. Isabella (1451–1504) probably did not commission it herself: it was likely a diplomatic gift, perhaps from Cardinal Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros, though this is not known for certain.","como_mirarla":"First look at the golden strip on the left, the only fully opaque and luminous area, and follow the flowers from top to bottom. Then notice the butterfly at the center, a pause between bloom and text. Finally, look through the page: the main lesson of this folio is not only what was painted on it, but what shows through from the other side.","dato_curioso":"A surprising visual fact: the gray text that seems erased is not damage, but lettering from the other side of the sheet showing through the thin, translucent vellum, and it therefore reads in mirror image.","preguntas":["What changes when a prayer book page is read as an image, rather than as text to be recited?","Why paint insects and flowers with such realism in the margin of a sacred text?","How does the writing showing through from the other side alter your sense of time and of the material object?"]},"es":{"titulo":"Horas de Isabel la Católica, fol.
