In the center-right sits a block of Latin text in dark brown ink, written in compact Gothic script with regular lines, leaving wide margins for decoration. Three ornamented initials stand out in blue, pink, green, and gold, along with two horizontal decorative bands that close sections of text. A slender painted vine rises from the lower margin, runs up the left side, and branches across the top, forming spirals of small leaves in blue, brown, green, orange, and gold, dotted with tiny fruits or buds. Among the foliage appear small birds with grey, yellow, and reddish plumage. On the left, a hybrid figure with a human upper body in pale clothing and a pink animal-like lower body seems to climb or dance. At bottom right, a long green dragon-like creature with a curled tail faces an open book, beside another bird. The flat, even light reveals the matte grain of the vellum and the crisp precision of each tiny brushstroke.","contexto":"This is folio 206 verso, a text page from the Hours of Charles the Noble, King of Navarre (1361-1425), made in Paris around 1405 in ink, tempera, and gold on vellum. According to the Cleveland Museum of Art, Charles probably acquired this book of hours, perhaps ready-made for the luxury market, during a trip to Paris in 1404-05, and had his coat of arms painted on no fewer than twenty folios. Six painting styles have been identified in the volume, by Italian, French, and Netherlandish artists. Overall planning is attributed to the Bolognese Master of the Brussels Initials.","como_mirarla":"Start with the block of text and then follow the vine that frames it toward the margins.
