In the lower left corner, a hybrid figure with a pointed blue hat, green tunic, and pink lower body raises one arm while holding a horn-like instrument. Even lighting reveals the soft, almost translucent surface of the vellum and the discreet shine of gold. According to the Cleveland Museum of Art, Charles probably acquired the already luxurious manuscript during a trip to Paris in 1404-05, rather than commissioning it directly. He valued it enough to have his coat of arms painted on no fewer than twenty folios.
