Occupying almost the full height, a muscular nude man sits on a rectangular stone block at center right. His body turns in a pronounced twist: his head, crowned with thick wavy hair, is rotated sharply to his left in lost profile, so the face remains barely visible, while his bare torso faces forward and leans slightly. One arm reaches down to grasp his raised shin; the other stretches behind him, its large hand resting firmly on the edge of the block with fingers spread. One leg is bent high across the other, knee prominent and modeled with dense hatching, while the lower leg extends diagonally toward a bare foot placed close to the viewer at lower left. Beneath him is a small tucked drape, and beside the block sits a smaller stepped stone. The background is built from broad diagonal strokes of reddish chalk that darken behind the back and shoulder, creating strong light on the chest, abdomen, thigh, and shin. In the lightly sketched foreground are small tufts of vegetation. A faint signature appears at lower left. The surface shows fine parallel hatching, granular chalk texture, tiny dark specks, and the soft absorbency of aged paper.","contexto":"Seated Male Nude, dated 1693–95, is a red chalk drawing by French artist Claude Gillot (1673–1722), now in the Cleveland Museum of Art. The source notes that nude life studies became central to training at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in Paris, founded in 1648 under Louis XIV, and that finished studies of this kind were commonly called academies. Louis de Boullogne taught life drawing there between 1694 and 1715. Gillot's twisting pose recalls Michelangelo's figures on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, probably known through prints or drawings, though exactly what Gillot saw is not known.","como_mirarla":"Start with the twist of the torso and the head turned away, then follow the diagonal of the raised leg down to the bare foot in the foreground. Next, look at what grounds him in the studio: the stone block, the small step, and the drape beneath his body. That tension between an idealized body and a posed model is what defines the sheet.","dato_curioso":"Finished life drawings like this were so closely tied to academic training that they were simply called academies, a name that reveals how essential the nude model was to an artist's education.","preguntas":["What changes when we realize this idealized body belonged to a real model holding a pose in a studio?","Why might the artist leave the face almost hidden while describing muscles, hands, and feet so carefully?","How does including the stone block and drape affect the illusion of a timeless nude?"]},"es":{"titulo":"Desnudo masculino sentado","se_ve":"Dibujo vertical en sanguina sobre papel cálido, beige rosado, enmarcado por una línea oscura delgada y una montura grisácea.
