At the center, a vast warm glow of golden-yellow and white lights dominates, forming a clear grid of illuminated streets that stretches southward and concentrates into a denser, brighter core along a dark coastline. To the right, the deep black of a body of water sharply contrasts with the urban radiance and traces the shoreline. Low clouds and patches of fog drift over the city and water, translucent and lit from below by the urban glow, appearing in soft gray and gilded tones. Toward the top, a smaller separate cluster of lights is visible, linked by thin luminous lines suggesting highways. In the lower area, more scattered neighborhoods appear as isolated dots and faint road networks. The surrounding darkness of unlit land and outer space encloses the scene, with no stars visible. The texture is grainy where electric lights cluster and smooth where mist diffuses the glow. The monumental scale implies hundreds of kilometers of urban area seen from hundreds of kilometers above.","contexto":"Earth observation photograph taken by the crew of Expedition 35 aboard the International Space Station on March 23, 2013, credited to Chris Hadfield in NASA records. It belongs to the Earth Observations series maintained by the Johnson Space Center and acquired from low Earth orbit for documentary and scientific purposes. The image shows urban lights at night seen through a thin cloud layer, a common type of astronaut photography used to document light pollution, local weather and urban sprawl. The source description does not specify the exact city, although the coastal shape and light pattern are consistent with a large metropolis beside a lake or sea.","como_mirarla":"Start with the most intense golden core and trace the glow southward as the grid becomes fainter. Then notice the veil of clouds lit from below and how it softens and blurs the light, shifting the reading from a sharp map to an atmospheric landscape.","dato_curioso":"Astronauts aboard the ISS experience about 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours due to their roughly 90-minute orbit, allowing frequent opportunities to photograph cities at night.","preguntas":["What does it evoke to see a city only as light, without people or buildings visible?","How does your perception of the landscape change when seen through clouds illuminated by the city itself?","In what way does this view from space alter the idea of boundaries between nature and urbanization?"]},"es":{"titulo":"Luces nocturnas vistas desde la Estación Espacial Internacional, Expedición 35","se_ve":"La imagen muestra una vista nocturna de la Tierra desde el espacio, en orientación oblicua.
