The wide field shows a horizontal band of the Milky Way’s center in infrared: a dense tapestry of thousands of tiny white and pale blue stars mixed with filamentary, mottled clouds of dust and gas in shades of brick red, dusty rose, brown and charcoal. The light feels warm at the edges and turns brighter and whiter toward the lower-left center, where stellar concentration peaks. A small thin white circle is centered on that bright core; a short straight white line extends diagonally upward to the right, linking it to a much larger circle in the upper right quadrant that occupies about a third of the frame. Inside the large circle the texture shifts dramatically to a smooth, diffuse haze in deep violet, magenta and near-black. At its exact center glows a sharp, intense pink-magenta point, surrounded by a softer elliptical halo that fades outward into darker purple-black edges with subtle cloudy variations. The contrast between the warm, grainy, reddish star field and the cool, velvety, luminous X-ray inset creates a sense of magnified depth and scientific focus.","contexto":"This composite combines data from two NASA telescopes and was released on April 29, 2015 by JPL-Caltech. The infrared background is from the Spitzer Space Telescope, while the magenta inset shows high-energy X-rays (20 to 40 kiloelectron volts) from NuSTAR, the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array. It zooms into the very center of our Milky Way, home to a supermassive black hole. The bright spot is a spinning pulsar near the black hole, already known, but the surrounding diffuse elliptical haze of extra X-rays was unexpected. Its source remains uncertain, though it is probably linked to a population of dead stars. The view is among the most detailed high-energy X-ray images of the galactic center obtained to date.","como_mirarla":"Start with the broad reddish star field and find the small circle marking the galactic core. Follow the connector line to the enlarged violet sphere, then focus on the intense central dot and the faint haze around it that changed scientists’ expectations.","dato_curioso":"The magenta and violet hues are assigned colors: high-energy X-rays are invisible to human eyes, so scientists color-code them to make the energy visible alongside Spitzer’s infrared data.","preguntas":["How does translating invisible light into visible color shape our understanding of the cosmos?","What feeling emerges from the contrast between the warm, sprawling star field and the cool, focused violet core?","In what ways can a scientific image also be read as an aesthetic composition?"]},"es":{"titulo":"Rayos X extra en el corazón de la Vía Láctea","se_ve":"La imagen es un fotomontaje científico compuesto por dos vistas superpuestas sobre un fondo estelar. I focus on how this image preserves two layers of invisible light.
