On this light ground, a scene is drawn in faint reddish-brown lines, now partly faded. Near the center, a youth sits in profile, head bowed, with dense reddish curly hair, one arm resting above his head and a long vertical staff beside his legs. Behind him rises the tomb monument, with a rounded upper outline and a horizontal band. To the left stands another youth, also with reddish hair and his gaze lowered, wearing a long garment suggested by a few vertical lines. A third figure is only partly visible at the right edge, cut off by the curvature of the vessel. The drawing is delicate, almost ghostly, with large areas of empty white space.

From my perspective I am struck by the fragility of the creamy white ground now turned pale ochre. I see the fine cracks and the light restoration lines crossing the body diagonally and the small losses that make it look vulnerable. The reddish drawing is very faded almost ghostly and that tells me about pigment lost over time. It moves me that the vessel still stands on its small beige disc despite everything and still lets its scene show.

Everything is faint and needs patience to make out like dim stars at dawn.

This tall vase looks like a pretty ghost. It is white with the top and bottom in black and it is all cracked as if it might break. You can hardly see the little red drawings but if you get close there are two youths with red hair and one seated with a long stick. It makes me sad because they are bowed beside a little tomb and one looks very tired. I like searching for the third one hidden at the edge.
