This is folio 20r from a Book of Hours for the Use of Rouen, made around 1470 in Rouen, France, by the artist named the Master of the Geneva Latini, active 1460 to 1480. The medium is ink, tempera and gold on vellum, as recorded by the Cleveland Museum of Art. In the late 1400s and early 1500s Rouen was a major center of book production, with activity concentrated around its cathedral whose wealthy chapter commissioned and maintained books. This master was Rouen's principal illuminator in the second half of the 1400s. The original patron and early provenance of this volume are not documented, but such books were typically made for private lay devotion.
