This is folio 73v of a Book of Hours for the Use of Rouen, made around 1470 in that French city and now held by the Cleveland Museum of Art. According to the source, it was painted by the Master of the Geneva Latini, Rouen's leading illuminator in the second half of the 15th century, active between about 1460 and 1480. In the late 15th and early 16th centuries Rouen was an important center of book production: its cathedral chapter spent large sums commissioning books and maintaining its library, and stationers and booksellers probably gathered near the cathedral. It is worked in ink, tempera, and gold on vellum. It was a gift of the Feiss family in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Paul L. Feiss.

This leaf looks like a garden stuck to a book. On the right there are lots of tiny brown letters in neat rows and some pretty letters in blue, pink and shiny gold. On the left there is a long strip with a blue little vine with gold, pointy green leaves and small pink, white and blue flowers, with little brownish ones at the bottom. I like that the bottom is empty, just smooth creamy color, so the blue and gold look like little jewels.
