I think about how to preserve that broad white space while also protecting the intense black marks of the eyes, which hold the whole portrait together without any neck or clothing. Notice the lighter margin framing the plate and the pencil signature at the bottom right, outside the image.

It looks like the boy is peeking out with just his head, as if he were floating on a giant sheet of paper! He has no neck or shirt, just his face looking at you. His hair is made with little lines like messy curls and his ears stick out on the sides. What I like most are his eyes, two strong black dots with a tiny shine, they look curious. Everything else is empty warm beige paper, as if they left it lots of room to breathe. At the bottom right there is a little pencil signature, like a secret from the artist.
