If you look closely you will see what amazes me most: the matte tempera on vellum and the touches of gold that still shine on the frame and on the edge of the book. The halo around the young woman’s head is subtle, translucent, not a solid golden disk, more like diffuse light. I am intrigued by the ruined crenellated tower outlined against that sky, and the rocky outcrop beside it. On the border, over the warm orange background, there is a large star-shaped blue flower at the bottom right that looks like a small botanical constellation next to the little brown bird and the white moth.
