According to the Cleveland Museum of Art, this is folio 116r of the Hours of Charles the Noble, King of Navarre (1361-1425), made about 1405 in Paris in ink, tempera and gold on vellum. The precious volume was highly prized by its owner, whose coat of arms appears on twenty folios, and seems to have been acquired ready-made on the luxury market during a trip to Paris in 1404-05 rather than commissioned directly. It was a collaborative work by six painters of Italian, French and Netherlandish origin.
