The paper is yellowed ivory, with irregular edges, corners softened by wear, and small stains and darker patches, especially toward the ends. Almost the entire surface is covered with dense handwriting in black ink, arranged in tightly packed horizontal lines. In the central block the characters are large and bold, with curved and angular strokes; above and below it, bands of much smaller script run across the page. Narrow columns at the left and right also hold tiny writing. Vertical red lines separate those side columns from the main body and act as a frame. Two solid red circles stand out against the pale paper, one near the center and one in the right-hand column, alongside short red strokes scattered through the text as punctuation or emphasis. There are no figures, landscape, or decorative scene: image gives way entirely to writing. The light is even and flat, like museum documentation light, revealing the paper's matte, slightly fibrous texture and the contrast between black ink and vermilion red. With my conservator eyes I first look at the support and its wear. This is a horizontal folio on yellowish ivory paper with irregular edges, softened corners and small stains especially at the ends. The matte, slightly fibrous surface holds dense black ink in very tight lines and touches of vermilion red in two solid circles and in vertical lines that separate the side columns from the central block. I wonder how the gum tempera and gold have survived on this page made to be held and passed from hand to hand.

To me it feels like a mapped night sky. The oblong folio is like a wide horizon where the black writing forms dense, orderly constellations. The two solid red circles look like moons or planets marked so you do not get lost while reading and the vertical red lines are like meridians organizing space. There are no figures or landscapes, only text. It is an intimate page made to be viewed up close, like when you study stars with a sky chart in your hands.

It looks like an old cookie-colored sheet with rounded tips from lots of use. It is full of tiny black letters packed very close together and it has two big red dots that look like buttons. It also has little red lines on the sides like walls. There are no drawings, just letters everywhere. I picture someone sitting and reading it up close very carefully because it is small and could bend easily.
