What you would seeLo que verías
The piece is a large rectangular shawl, laid flat against a neutral light gray background and photographed from above. It fills almost the entire frame, with gently wavy edges and a small pale tag visible at the upper right corner. The central field is a deep black, densely scattered with a repeating pattern of tiny flowers and curling vines in ivory, cream, pale green, and touches of golden yellow and soft pink. The texture suggests a lightweight silk with fine embroidery, the glossy thread standing out against the dark ground. Surrounding the field is a wide continuous border in aged ivory, bearing larger motifs: circular medallions, boteh or palmette shapes, and stylized birds or pheasants in yellow and gray, interspersed with foliage. The lighting is even and diffused, typical of museum documentation, revealing the subtle sheen of the silk and the precision of the stitches without harsh shadows. In the foreground the eye catches the density of the floral sprinkle; in the background the border frames and orders it, creating the impression of a nocturnal garden contained by an ornamental frame. Small details such as the unevenness of the outer black edge and tonal variations in the thread attest to its handmade character.
How to look at itCómo mirarla
Take in the dark expanse first, then let your eye follow the pale border that encloses it. Notice how the tiny blossoms in the center shift in scale toward the edge, where birds and medallions appear. That contrast between a delicate sprinkled field and a narrative frame gives the piece its rhythm.

Come closer and you will see why this silk fascinates me: the central field is a deep black that makes every stitch glow in ivory, cream and pale green, with touches of golden yellow and soft pink. The embroidery is so fine it looks drawn, scattering flowers and tendrils like a nocturnal garden. I linger on the wide border in aged ivory, with its circular medallions and stylized birds in yellow and grey, framing everything with artisanal patience. Even the small light label in the upper right corner tells of its life in the museum.

I look at this shawl and see an embroidered night sky. The deep black field is like a moonless night, and each tiny flower in cream and ivory is a star, with pale green tendrils swirling like constellations. The touches of yellow and pink are distant glimmers. Around it, the wide border in aged ivory works like the frame of an antique telescope, with its circular medallions like planets and yellow birds that seem to cross the firmament. It is a portable, orderly universe you can unfold and contemplate from above, lit with even museum light.

It looks like a magic blanket for fairies. In the middle everything is black like nighttime, but it is full of tiny little flowers in cream, light green, yellow and pink that seem to dance. If you stare at it you feel it is a secret garden. The border is light ivory and has bigger drawings, with round little medallions and yellow and grey birdies that I love. I like that it is so big it fills almost the whole picture and has a little white tag in the corner as if saying hi, I belong to the museum.
