What you would seeLo que verías
The image shows a cropped portion of the solar disk set against the absolute black of space, filling the left and central area of the frame. On the right limb of the Sun, a flare erupts as an intense burst of white and bright yellow light, almost overexposed, with radial filaments spreading outward like a crown. Just below that brilliant point, a huge prominence of plasma extends in an arc or tentacle shape, with a lumpy and fibrous texture in shades of reddish orange, burnt orange and golden yellow, curving into the dark void. The solar surface displays a rough, granular topography, like boiling lava, with darker patches and fainter luminous filaments in the upper zone, where two small bright cores with a greenish halo are visible. The light from the event illuminates the solar limb and creates a diffuse glow. The scale is monumental: the loop of material appears to hang for hundreds of thousands of kilometers. The contrast between deep black, incandescent white and fiery reds creates a sense of violent energy and extreme beauty.
How to look at itCómo mirarla
Start with the white burst on the limb: it is the heart of the flare. Then follow the large reddish plasma loop hanging into darkness and notice how its texture shifts from bright and smooth near the flash to spongy and frayed at the tip. Look at the two small upper glows to understand that the Sun is never calm.
ContextContexto
According to source data, the image was captured on October 2, 2014 by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), operated by the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). It shows a mid-level solar flare on the right limb of the Sun, accompanied by a burst of material erupting into space. It is an image in extreme ultraviolet light, colorized for scientific visualization. SDO, launched in 2010, continuously monitors solar activity as part of NASA's heliophysics program. No additional data is provided about the exact classification of the flare or its terrestrial effects.

I see this image as an extreme pictorial surface. On the left, the solar disk is a rough, granular texture, like boiling lava, with darker spots and faint filaments. On the right, the limb breaks with an overexposed white and yellow flare with radial filaments, and below it a huge arch of lumpy plasma in orange-red and gold floats against absolute black. What interests me is how color is not decorative: the colorized extreme ultraviolet reveals energy and temperature, while sustaining a violent contrast between light and void.

What we see here is the right limb of the Sun on October 2, 2014, captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. That white and yellow burst is a mid-level solar flare, and the orange-red tentacle curving outward is plasma ejected into space, spanning hundreds of thousands of kilometers. The image was taken in extreme ultraviolet light and colorized so we can appreciate it. SDO, in orbit since 2010, watches the Sun nonstop. It is pure science, but also a reminder of the energy that governs our entire solar system.

It looks like the Sun is doing magic! On one side it is like a giant ball of bubbly lava, and on the other side, boom!, a super bright white light explodes like fireworks. Below hangs a dragon of orange and red fire, all fluffy and long, stretching into the darkness. The background is totally black, as if the Sun were floating alone in space. It scares me a little because it is so big and powerful, but it is also beautiful, like the Sun wanted to say hi with a giant spark.
