What you would seeLo que verías
The composition is dominated by a turbulent surface that fills the entire frame, with no horizon and no visible edge of the Sun. Near the center, slightly to the right, bursts an almost blinding white flash shaped like an irregular star: an intensely bright core sending out short, crossing points of light. Hanging directly below it is a thin, straight, reddish vertical streak, like a needle or an elongated drop, which stands out sharply against the chaos around it. Around the burst, golden, yellow, and dark olive-green filaments twist together in swirls that recall smoke, flames, or seaweed stirred by a current. There are shadowy, nearly black areas between luminous folds, and small white and yellow hotspots scattered about, especially toward the lower left and upper right corners. Along the right edge the light grows stronger and forms soft rays escaping the frame. No solid objects can be made out: everything looks like gas in motion, with a grainy, fibrous, shifting texture. Scale is impossible to judge at a glance; nothing human provides a reference. Looking calmly, you can pick out tiny curved threads, dark bubbles, and secondary glints flickering within the golden tangle.
How to look at itCómo mirarla
Start with the blinding center and let your eyes adjust to the tangle around it. Then follow the thin red line downward: its straight, artificial calm changes how you read the rest, which looks like pure chaos. Finally, look toward the edges, where smaller glows suggest this explosion is part of a much larger, restless surface.
ContextContexto
According to the source data, this image was captured on March 29, 2014, by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory and is credited to NASA/GSFC. It blends two wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light, 304 and 171 angstroms, which help scientists observe the lower levels of the Sun's atmosphere. The flare peaked at 1:48 p.m. EDT and was classified as X1: X-class flares are the most intense, and the number indicates their relative strength. The source notes that harmful radiation from a flare cannot reach people on the ground through Earth's atmosphere, though a strong event can disturb the layer where GPS and communications signals travel.

Curious detailDato curioso
Within the X class, the numbers scale directly: an X2 flare is twice as intense as an X1, and an X3 is three times as intense.

What captivates me is the texture: there is no solid surface, only gas and plasma in motion that looks like golden smoke and seaweed stirred by a current. Notice the white star-shaped flare, almost blown out, with crossed spikes; right below hangs that thin vertical reddish streak, like a needle, which I would want to preserve without losing contrast. Yellow and olive-green filaments tangle with near-black gaps and small secondary bright spots. This is an extreme ultraviolet image, so restoring it means respecting those golds without inventing what is invisible.

This is our star seen without a human filter. The Solar Dynamics Observatory captured it on March 29, 2014 by combining two wavelengths, 304 and 171 angstroms, to show the lower solar atmosphere. The white burst is an X1-class flare, the most intense category, peaking at 1:48 p.m. EDT. There is no horizon or human scale: everything is plasma. That vertical reddish streak below the core and the golden filaments are gas at millions of degrees. Rest assured, its radiation does not reach us on the ground, but it can disturb GPS and communications.

The eight-year-oldLa niña de ocho años
It looks like the Sun is having a super spark explosion! In the middle there is a super bright little white star that dazzles, as if someone turned on a giant flash. Below it hangs a long little red thread, like a stretched droplet. All around there are golden and green swirls, like shiny smoke or spaghetti moving a lot. There are little lights like fireflies and dark little patches hiding. I like it because it does not look like a ball, but like a pool of fire with no edges.
