What you would seeLo que verías
The horizontal image is dominated by the curvature of Earth, crossing diagonally from the left edge, at mid-height, toward the lower right corner. Above that line lies the deep black of space; below it, the planet's surface seen from a great height. In the upper left corner the Sun shines as a blinding white source, with long, fine rays spreading outward like a star and piercing the darkness. Around it appear lens flares: an intense green circle near the upper center, other faint bluish discs, and a diffuse pink glow at lower right. The edge of Earth is marked by a very thin band of luminous blue, the atmosphere, separating the planet from the void. Beneath it lie extensive layers of blue-gray clouds, with rough, undulating textures, and areas of ocean reflecting golden and coppery tones near the illuminated horizon. Toward the bottom, the scene darkens to almost black, suggesting the region still in shadow. In the upper right corner, only a small angular, orange fragment with a grid of cells peeks into view, probably part of the space station. There are no people or text; the scale feels immense and silent.
How to look at itCómo mirarla
First look at the thin blue line of the atmosphere, then follow the curve of the Earth toward the darkness below. Next, notice the Sun's rays and the lens flares: they remind you that there is a camera — and an observer — between the planet and the void. Finally, find the small orange fragment in the upper right corner; that human detail changes the scale of the whole scene.
ContextContexto
According to the source data, this NASA photograph, credited to NASA/JSC and coded iss064e033237, was taken on February 15, 2021, from the International Space Station. The station was orbiting about 260 miles — approximately 418 kilometers — above the Pacific Ocean, about 500 miles southwest of Mexico, during an orbital sunrise. Its technique is recorded as photography / scientific imagery. The data do not say which astronaut took the picture or which camera was used, so that is unknown. The International Space Station is a continuously crewed laboratory in low Earth orbit, operated by partner space agencies, from which Earth is regularly documented.

The conservatorLa restauradora
If you look closely you will see this is not a painting, it is a photo taken from very high above. What amazes me most is that very thin blue line at the edge of Earth, it is our atmosphere and it looks fragile, as if it could be erased. The Sun is so bright it leaves green and blue flares on the lens. As a restorer I think about how to care for this digital image so that many years from now we can still see those rough clouds and that golden light over the ocean without losing its glow.

This photo shows a sunrise but not like the ones down here, it is an orbital sunrise. The International Space Station was about 418 kilometers over the Pacific, southwest of Mexico, on February 15, 2021. The Sun rises like a star with white spikes and creates those colored circles from the lens, one intense green and one pinkish. That diagonal curve is the real Earth, with its glowing layer of air and bluish gray clouds below. It is the laboratory in the sky looking at us.
The eight-year-oldLa niña de ocho años
It looks like Earth is a giant ball waking up! Up top everything is super black like when you turn off the light, and the Sun is like a super strong flashlight making little stars. I like the little blue stripe hugging the planet, it looks like it is protecting it from space. Down below there are clouds like wrinkly blankets and the sea shines golden where the Sun hits it. In one corner a little orange piece of the station peeks out, as if someone took the photo while hiding. It gives me tingles to see it!
¡Me da cosquillitas verlo!

Search with your eyes: what intense color is the circle of light left by the lens near the top center of the photo?
HintPista
It is not the blue of the sky nor the white of the Sun, it is the most vivid flare that looks like a shiny marble.

The photo is divided into two worlds: what fills the upper part and what fills the lower part separated by the blue curve?
HintPista
Think of total darkness with stars above and clouds and golden sea below, with a thin blue line in between.

In one corner a clue peeks out about where the photo was taken: what color is that fragment of the station and what shape does it have?
HintPista
Look at the upper right corner, it is not a cloud or a star, it is a piece with small squares.
