For me this image iss071e082698 is a privileged window from the International Space Station. Orbiting over the Atlantic, the camera looks obliquely toward Mauritania where the Sahara meets the ocean. I love spotting the large central bay in dark greenish blue, the pale peninsula stretching northward and the almost black Atlantic at the top. Small dark patches near the coast hint at saline wetlands or settlements. With no thick clouds, the boundary between aridity and water is perfectly clear. This is pure Earth observation, science made with a photo taken by astronauts.

It feels like I am floating in space! I see lots of cookie-colored and light beige sand that is the desert, and next to it a super dark blue sea that is the Atlantic. In the middle there is a big bay that looks like a water belly and a skinny peninsula sticking into the sea like a little finger. There are tiny clouds and their shadows looking like stretched gray spots. Near the shore the water looks lighter because of the dusty sand. I like to imagine I am an astronaut taking the photo from way way up high, 415 kilometers above.
