What you would seeLo que verías

The image captures an orbital sunrise as seen from space, dominated by the rising sun. Along the lower edge, a thin horizontal line defines Earth's limb: a dark, almost black layer of clouds or night side, rimmed by an incandescent edge of intense orange and red where sunlight grazes the cloud tops. Just above that rim, the solar disk appears partly risen, blazing white at its core and softening to yellow and gold at its edges, creating a powerful glare with diffuse halos in pink and violet tones. Above the sun, Earth's atmosphere unfolds in horizontal bands of color: first a narrow warm orange glow, then a pale light blue that deepens into a rich, saturated blue and finally merges into the absolute black of space at the top of the frame. The rest of the sky is a velvety darkness, interrupted by subtle lens flares and reflections. The composition is panoramic and minimalist, with extreme contrast between light and shadow and a feeling of silence, vastness and weightlessness. No human figures or structures are visible, only light, color and atmospheric layers.

How to look at itCómo mirarla

Start with the bright solar disk in the lower right third and follow the orange rim that stretches across the entire horizon. Then lift your gaze through the blue bands of the atmosphere into the blackness of space to sense how thin and fragile the protective layer appears. Notice the pink and violet flares around the sun: they are lens artifacts that remind you this view is framed by a window and a camera.

Curious detailDato curioso

The International Space Station experiences about 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours, one roughly every 90 minutes as it completes an orbit around Earth.

The conservatorLa restauradora

From my perspective as a restorer I focus on how light is preserved in this digital image cataloged as iss073e0988954. I see very defined layers: darkness below, then the intense orange and red edge over the clouds and above the gradient from light blue to deep blue to the black of space. The sun, white and golden, creates flares and pink and violet halos. It is a fragile document because of its extreme light, yet valuable for understanding atmospheric color seen from the International Space Station.

The amateur astronomerEl astrónomo aficionado

What excites me is recognizing an orbital sunrise captured on October 30, 2025 from about 264 miles above the Czech Republic. From the International Space Station the sun does not rise as we see it below: it bursts over the curved horizon of Earth, first lighting the atmosphere in orange and blue bands. The dazzling white solar disk and lens flares remind us we are in orbit, suspended between day and night in total silence.

The eight-year-oldLa niña de ocho años

It looks like the sun is waking up and painting the sky with giant crayons. Down below there is a little black line that is Earth at night and on top an orange line glowing like fire. The sun is a very bright white ball with yellow light around it. Above the sky turns light blue and then strong blue until it becomes black like when you turn off your bedroom light. There are no people, just colors and light floating. I want to wave hello to the sun.

    HintPista

Look for the white and golden circle that creates the brightest flare in the center of the dawn.

  2. #2

How many large color zones can be distinguished vertically, from the darkness below to the blackness of space above?

    HintPista

Count the horizontal bands: the dark base, the orange edge, the blues and the upper black space.

  3. #3

If you look closely at the dark sky, what pink and violet luminous effect accompanies the strong brightness of the sun?

    HintPista

It is an extra glow that is not part of the sun itself, but a reflection created by the camera in space.
