What you would seeLo que verías
The image shows a deep star field dominated by vast clouds of cosmic dust in shades of reddish pink, salmon and deep burgundy that fill almost the entire frame. Several bright stars, white with a bluish tint and cross-shaped glints, are scattered across the composition: one very luminous at the top center, another to the left at mid height, a smaller one to the right and a tight small group toward the lower center. Between them the dust forms soft, wavy veils like feathers or translucent gauze, with fine filaments and denser, darker patches that create depth. The background is speckled with hundreds of tiny white and pale blue dots, distant stars of varying brightness and size. Light seems to radiate from the main stars and illuminate the surrounding dust, which brightens around them and darkens in the gaps. The texture is both airy and grainy, suggesting an immense interstellar cloud spanning several light years. Small details — almost black dark threads, diffuse halos around the most intense stars and subtle shifts from pink to ochre — emerge when looking slowly.
How to look at itCómo mirarla
First locate the brightest stars and then follow the veils of dust that connect them like ripples. Notice how the density of the red shifts from luminous, almost transparent areas to deep wine-colored shadows, giving a sense of volume and gentle floating motion.
ContextContexto
The image titled Pink Pleiades was released on April 16, 2007 by NASA / JPL-Caltech and comes from the NASA Image and Video Library. It was captured in infrared light by the Spitzer Space Telescope. It shows the Pleiades star cluster, also known as the Seven Sisters, wrapped in dust clouds that appear pink and feathery at this wavelength. According to the source description, the dust sweeps around the stars like a cushiony veil. It is a scientific photograph with color processing to make infrared visible, typical of contemporary astronomical outreach.

Curious detailDato curioso
The Spitzer Space Telescope observed in infrared light, invisible to the human eye, so the pink and reddish tones are assigned colors to translate that data; in visible light the dust around the Pleiades appears more bluish.

The conservatorLa restauradora
From my perspective as a restorer I am fascinated by how this image reveals the invisible. What you see in pink and burgundy is cosmic dust captured in infrared by the Spitzer telescope and translated into visible color. Those soft veils and fine filaments are real, but their pink tone is false color so we can study them. Notice the halos around the bluish white stars and how the light brightens the nearby dust. It is a scientific photograph that, like a restoration, makes visible what the eye cannot perceive.

If you look carefully you will find the Seven Sisters, the Pleiades star cluster. The brightest star at the top center and its companions light up the cloud they are passing through. In visible light we would see bluish glows, but Spitzer photographed them in infrared on April 16 2007 for NASA and the pink color of the dust stands out like a quilted veil. Imagine the scale, several light years across. Every tiny dot in the background is a distant sun. You are not seeing paint, but real interstellar dust stirred by starlight.
The eight-year-oldLa niña de ocho años
It looks like the stars are wrapped in pink cotton candy. I see fluffy clouds floating and glowing around little cross shaped stars. The biggest one is at the top and looks like a lamp turned on inside a blanket. Among the pink there are dark parts that look like little caves. If you look closer you will see lots of tiny white dots that are other small stars. I imagine the Seven Sisters are playing hide and seek among soft veils that move slowly in space.
