What you would seeLo que verías
The image is a wide star field with no horizon, filling the entire frame with thousands of luminous points against a nearly black background that turns bluish at the edges. At the center and toward the top, an irregular nebulosity dominates, like a cloud of gas and dust lit from within. Its tones shift from turquoise and emerald green in the upper area to pale yellows, cream, and soft golds near the core. The texture looks cottony and filamentary, with translucent veils, denser clumps, and dark hollows where almost no stars are visible. At the center shines an intense white-and-orange star with four cross-shaped spikes, probably an optical effect of the instrument. Above it appears another pink, diffuse glow. In the lower-left third, a small, compact group stands out in bright red and orange, like embers in the gloom. Around it are scattered countless blue stars, some tiny as fine dust, others larger and sharper. At lower right, the sky becomes darker and emptier, heightening the sense of depth. There are no people, recognizable objects, or references for scale; everything suggests immensity and distance, calmly revealed only when looking closely.
How to look at itCómo mirarla
Start with the bright star at the center and its cross-shaped spikes, then move upward into the green veil. Next, look for the small red-orange ember at lower left: its contrast changes the cool, calm feeling of the rest of the scene. Finish in the dark lower-right corner, where the scarcity of stars makes the central cloud seem even closer and denser.
ContextContexto
According to the source data, this scientific image was released on August 3, 2010, by NASA/JPL-Caltech/UCLA and comes from the NASA Image and Video Library. It shows a cluster of newborn stars enclosed in a cocoon of dust and gas in the constellation Camelopardalis, also known as the Giraffe. It was obtained with the WISE space telescope, the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, designed to observe the sky in infrared light. That matters because infrared can reveal structures that cosmic dust hides in visible light. From these data, the specific name of the cluster, its distance, and its exact size are not known.

The colors are not what a human eye would see: in WISE images, invisible infrared wavelengths are translated into visible colors to show differences in temperature and composition.

I pause at what this image reveals and what it hides. It is infrared light captured by WISE, not visible light, which is why we see soft turquoise greens and golden tones that are false colors to translate the invisible. Cosmic dust acts like a veil that in other pictures hides the cluster in Camelopardalis, the Giraffe. Here the veil turns translucent, cottony, with dark gaps and dense clumps. It moves me to realize we are not restoring the nebula, but rather our way of seeing it.

When I learned that WISE sees in infrared I understood why this photo from August 3, 2010 excites me so much. The record says it is a cluster of newborn stars in the Giraffe, wrapped in gas and dust. In visible light that dust would hide it, but WISE cuts through it. I see the bright central star with cross-shaped spikes, the diffuse pink glow above it and the little red and orange clump at the lower left like embers. It is a reminder that the universe always has hidden layers waiting to be uncovered.

It looks like a magic garden in space! I see thousands of tiny blue dots like glitter and in the middle a huge green and golden cloud, like shiny cotton candy. There is a super bright star in the center with four little spikes and a small red and orange bunch that looks like a tiny campfire. At the bottom right it is darker, like a little hole with no stars. I like to imagine the baby stars are playing hide and seek behind the dusty cloud.
