What you would seeLo que verías
Scientific diagram on a deep black background comparing two planetary systems aligned horizontally. At the top, the title «Kepler-62 System» in golden yellow. Below, a top-down view of concentric orbits around a small orange star; three orbits are outlined in yellow and a translucent green ring marks the «Habitable Zone». Thin lines connect each orbit to its corresponding planet shown in a row beneath. From left to right: 62f, a greyish world with pale veining and a cold rocky appearance; 62e, mottled bluish grey; 62d, large, spherical, in beige and brown tones with cloudy bands; 62c, small and smooth grey; 62b, glowing reddish with dark patches. At the bottom, the «Solar System» with its yellow star and four orbits in pale blue over another green habitable ring, and its four planets to scale: tiny grey Mercury, pearly white Venus, blue and white Earth with visible continents, and small ochre Mars. In the lower left corner faint text reads «Planets and orbits to scale». The lighting is crisp and digital, with textures mimicking planetary surfaces and soft stellar glows. The composition is symmetrical and educational, using warm colors on top and cooler tones below to distinguish the systems.
How to look at itCómo mirarla
First scan the upper row of Kepler-62 planets, then the lower row of the solar system to notice differences in size and color. Observe how the green habitable zone rings enclose different orbits in each system. Follow the thin lines linking each top-down orbit to its planet: they reveal which worlds might support liquid water.
ContextContexto
According to the NASA Image and Video Library source, the diagram published on April 18, 2013 and credited to NASA/Ames/JPL-Caltech compares the inner solar system planets to Kepler-62, a five-planet system about 1,200 light-years from Earth in the constellation Lyra. The original description notes the star is seven billion years old, somewhat older than the Sun. Kepler-62 was identified by NASA's Kepler space telescope, launched in 2009 to search for exoplanets using the transit method. No further details about the specific technique of this illustration are given beyond its classification as a scientific photograph / image from JPL.

Kepler-62e and Kepler-62f were among the first super-Earth-sized exoplanets confirmed inside their star's habitable zone, a discovery NASA announced in April 2013.

I focus on how this 2013 digital image is constructed. Against a deep black background, everything is crisp and orderly: two systems aligned for comparison. At the top I see the title in golden yellow and the concentric orbits around a small orange star. I notice the translucent green ring marking the habitable zone and how each orbit connects to its planet in a row. Below, the solar system repeats the pattern with light blue orbits and another green zone. The lighting is even, without real shadows, typical of a scientific illustration made to explain scale.

What excites me is comparing sizes and positions. At the top is Kepler-62, about 1,200 light years away in Lyra, with five planets found by the Kepler telescope. Its star is seven billion years old, a bit older than the Sun. I see three orbits marked in yellow and the green ring of the habitable zone where 62f and 62e sit. Below, our inner system with Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars around the yellow Sun. The note says planets and orbits are to scale, so I can imagine how compact Kepler-62 is compared to ours.

They look like two families of planets one above the other! The top one has a little orange star and five planets in many colors. The first one on the left looks gray and cold like a frozen marble, another is reddish and hot. There is a green ring that is like a special zone where they could live. Below is our family with the yellow Sun and four planets: tiny Mercury, whitish Venus, blue and white Earth and orange Mars. Everything is connected with lines to its rings. I like counting the planets and seeing which is biggest.
