What you would seeLo que verías

Against a flat, uniform dark charcoal-gray background, two planetary spheres hover at the same height, separated by empty space in the center and labeled in small white sans-serif text below. On the left, Earth is rendered with rich detail: deep, saturated blue oceans, pale beige and soft green landmasses, and dense, swirling white cloud cover, especially over the equator and the Pacific, with gentle shading that models its three-dimensional volume and a soft terminator on its left edge indicating a frontal light source. On the right, Kepler-1649c appears marginally larger, in a muted, dusty palette of brownish pink, reddish taupe and pale violet-gray, with mottled markings suggesting continents and thin, bright cloud veils, plus a small specular highlight near its equator that mimics starlight; its texture is more painterly and less crisp than Earth’s, emphasizing its status as an artistic interpretation. The view is frontal and educational, without stars or surrounding bodies, focusing attention entirely on the subtle difference in diameter and coloration between the two worlds.

How to look at itCómo mirarla

Take in both disks together first and notice how nearly identical they are; then scan back and forth along their outer rims to catch the slight size increase of Kepler-1649c. Linger on the chromatic contrast — Earth’s vivid blue and crisp white clouds versus the exoplanet’s hazy reddish tones — which hints at a different, imagined atmosphere.

I focus on how this digital image is built to last as an outreach document. On the left I see Earth with deep blues, pale greens and crisp white clouds, and on the right Kepler-1649c with dusty pinks and reddish browns that look softer and more painterly. The uniform dark gray background, with no stars, protects the reading. The small white labels at the bottom and the frontal lighting stabilize the composition. I want visitors to understand that this is a 2020 illustration, not a direct photograph, and that its value lies in its didactic clarity.

When I look at this comparison I love how subtle the difference is. Earth on the left and Kepler-1649c on the right float at the same height against a smooth dark gray background, and if you look closely you will see the exoplanet is just slightly larger, 1.06 times Earth’s radius according to Kepler mission data. The illustration from NASA’s Ames Research Center, with art by Daniel Rutter published on April 15 2020, is not meant to be a real photo. It uses color and an equatorial glint to imagine a rocky world similar to ours.

They look like two giant marbles floating in the air. The one on the left is our Earth, blue with beige patches and fluffy white clouds like cotton, and the one on the right is Kepler-1649c, more pinkish and brownish with faint patches. They are separated by an empty space and have their names written in white below. Kepler-1649c looks just a little bigger than Earth. I like that there are no stars behind, just the gray background, so I can compare them better like in a spot the difference game.
