This is folio 199 recto of the Hours of Charles the Noble, King of Navarre (1361–1425), made in Paris, France, around 1405, in ink, tempera, and gold on vellum. According to the Cleveland Museum of Art, Charles did not necessarily commission it from a specific workshop; he probably bought it, perhaps ready-made for the luxury market, during a trip to Paris in 1404–05, and had his coat of arms painted on no fewer than twenty folios. Six painting styles have been identified in the book—Italian, French, and Netherlandish. This folio is a text page, without a large miniature.

This looks like a page with a trap of mischievous plants! The brown text sits neatly at the top, but below everything turns into a blue jungle with pointy leaves and little red and golden flowers that shine like candy.
