What you would seeLo que verías
The image shows a narrow, vertical interior of an institutional building, photographed at ground level looking toward a landing and a corridor. In the foreground to the right, a short flight of about seven steps climbs against a wall of cream-painted concrete blocks; the treads are covered in very worn pale green linoleum and the risers are white with dark scuffs, the brown wooden nosing is chipped revealing black material underneath. The staircase has double handrails: black metal tubes with honey-toned varnished wooden top rails, thin balusters and a wooden side panel. The floor is a patchy checkerboard tile in reddish brown, black, beige and bluish grey, glossy with light reflections and a damp look. At the center, a white metal door stands slightly ajar bearing a round blue NASA insignia, with its frame and metal handle; above it hangs an opal glass ceiling fixture casting warm yellowish light. To the left, a long straight hallway recedes in perspective, flanked by cream walls and open doors, with a polished wooden floor reflecting a row of aligned ceiling lights that create a luminous vanishing point toward a distant doorway. Small details emerge on close looking: a red fire extinguisher barely visible at the lower left, a small red and white sign on the hallway wall, cables hanging from the railing, chipped paint, dark baseboards and the rough texture of the block walls.
How to look at itCómo mirarla
Start with the staircase on the right and its worn surfaces, which anchor the foreground. Then follow the warm ceiling light toward the bright corridor on the left and let the deep perspective draw you to the back. Notice the contrast between the sharp NASA insignia on the door and the humble deterioration of steps and walls, which humanizes a place linked to high technology.

The conservatorLa restauradora
As a conservator I focus on the traces of time revealed in this image from July 13, 2010. I notice the worn pale green linoleum, the chipped brown wooden nosing showing its black interior, the cream block walls with flaking paint and the glossy mosaic in reddish brown, black, beige and bluish gray tones. I am interested in how the warm yellowish light emphasizes stains and daily use in a service area of the Mission Control Center, not the main control room, honestly documenting its condition.
The amateur astronomerEl astrónomo aficionado
As an amateur astronomer I am excited to know this is the Mission Control Center at Kennedy Space Center, photographed in 2010 by Penny Rogo Bailes. Even though we do not see consoles or screens, I imagine that behind that white metal door with the blue circular NASA emblem, decisions were made that sent spacecraft into space. The long hallway with aligned lights creating a luminous vanishing point makes me think of a rocket trajectory toward the depths of the universe, even in a humble and worn corner.

This photo looks like a secret maze! I see a tiny staircase with seven steps with a black railing and a honey-colored handrail that shines. The floor looks wet and has little squares in many colors like a giant game board. There is a white door with the blue NASA logo half open, as if someone hid there playing hide and seek. The long hallway has many lights that reflect and look like little stars. There is even a red fire extinguisher hidden in the corner!
